PROVA, a kind-hearted young woman, sits on the pavement, surrounded by a group of stray dogs. She carefully opens a packet of dog biscuits and begins feeding them one by one. SINTHIA, a well-dressed woman, approaches Prova and observes her actions with a skeptical expression.
SINTHIA
What are you doing?
PROVA
Feeding these dogs. They’re hungry and need food.
SINTHIA
But why are you wasting your money on animals? There are so many poor people who need help.
PROVA
I know there are poor people who need help, but animals do too. They can’t help themselves.
SINTHIA
But animals don’t have the same needs as humans. They can’t improve their own lives.
PROVA
That’s true, but they still deserve to be treated with kindness. They feel pain and suffering just like we do.
SINTHIA
I still think you could be doing better things with your time and money.
PROVA
I help people too, but I don’t think I need to choose between helping humans and animals. We can do both.
SINTHIA
I guess I never thought of it that way before.
PROVA
Most people don’t. But it’s important to remember that all living beings deserve compassion.
Sinthia looks at the dogs with a newfound empathy.
SINTHIA
I actually feel bad now. I should do something to help them.
PROVA
That’s great! There are many ways you can help stray animals. You can donate to animal shelters, volunteer your time, or simply feed them when you see them.
SINTHIA
I think I’ll start by feeding them.
Sinthia walks to a nearby store and buys a cake. She returns to Prova and begins feeding the dogs pieces of cake.
SINTHIA
Thank you for showing me the importance of helping animals.
PROVA
You’re welcome. It’s never too late to start making a difference.
